“Serenely Happy Energy Cells as seen under a Microscope” 2008 $400
Materials: stained glass,
millefiori, glass, beads, chalcedony cabochons, pearls on a wood substrate
16”x16”
This piece was created for
the first show of the newly created group Women Sharing Art. The
show was entitled “Energy Interpreted” and the artists were to submit art
that captured their interpretation of energy. The design process began
with an exploration of my definition of energy, and as there are many
types and kinds, psychic energy kept popping up on the radar. It’s
something you cannot see but it certainly can be felt. I wondered what my
psychic energy cells would look like if viewed under a microscope. My
design solution evolved from a belt buckle I had previously created. I
wanted to explore where the design would go once it burst past the small
confines of the buckle. |

“Playing Around” 2008 $100
Materials: tissue paper decoupage, yellow glass, clear &
patterned glass on Cementboard 8"x9"
I
wanted to experiment with the patterns and shapes that would show up under
the glass. I decided not to grout and fill in the interstices, as I liked
the way it looked. |

Shafir Workshop Piece 2008 $400
Materials: broken pottery, pebbles, lapis lazuli, shale, handmade tiles,
seashells on a
12”x12” wood substrate
Went
to the Chicago School of Mosaics in May 2008 to take a workshop with Ilana
Shafir who teaches spontaneous mosaics. It was hard work but a lot of fun
and what I learned that has definitely influenced the way I look at a
rock, tile, shards, and shells! |

“My
Mandala” 2008 $300
Materials: African red whiteheart beads, bone beads, brass beads, Cinca
tile, recycled glass beads, stained glass, African wedding beads, 6mm seed
beads, shell beads, ungrouted on cementboard, 9”x9”.
Playing around with all the different tesserae I had lying around, I
created this design. Shortly after finishing I was reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and came across the word mandala. Having heard of a
mandala but not really knowing what it was, I looked up the definition and
realized I had created my own mandala. |

“Making Sense of it All” 2008 $350
Materials: gold potato pearls, African bone beads, brass beads, copper
nails, Cinca tile, glass tile, stained glass, recycled glass beads, 6mm
seed beads, and shell beads ungrouted on 8” x 8” cementboard.
Again, playing around with the tesserae, I ended up making this weeping
willow tree and creating patterns in the design. |

“Make
Your Own Path” 2007
Materials: Mexican smalti, smalti, Cinca tile, vitreous glass tile on a
wood substrate 27”x17”
The
original design began as a triptych, and I WILL make the other two

perspective really helped focus me on the details of my work. |
